Waleska Aureliano

Waleska Aureliano is an Adjunct Professor at the Institute of Social Sciences at the Rio de Janeiro State University (UERJ). She has a PhD in Social Anthropology from the Universidade Federal de Santa Catarina and has a postdoctoral degree in the same area from Museu Nacional (UFRJ). She also has a degree in Sociology from the Universidade Federal da Paraíba. Since 2004, she has been conducting research regarding the anthropology of health in connection with studies about gender, religion/spirituality, activism and emotions. Her recent research deals with the contemporary management of the body and of subjectivity in events of chronic illness such as cancer, and the activism of patients and families affected by rare diseases. She is the head of GREFAC - Grupo de Estudos da Família Contemporânea, registered in CNPq.
