Raphael Bispo is an Adjunct Professor of Anthropology at the Department of Social Sciences and in the Graduate Program of Social Sciences (PPGCSO) at the Universidade Federal de Juiz de Fora (UFJF). He has a Master’s degree and a PhD in Social Anthropology from Museu Nacional/UFRJ. He has a Bachelor’s degree in Social Sciences from UERJ and in Social Communication (Journalism) from UFRJ. He has experience in the area of Urban Anthropology, covering topics related to gender studies, sexuality, emotions, youth, the aging process, religiosity and mass communication. His research analyzes the so-called mass or media cultures and their interfaces with social markers of difference (such as age, gender, sexuality, and religion). He also dedicates himself to the study of emotions through the prism of the social sciences, focusing particularly on the dynamics and processes of suffering. He is currently researching aspects of gender, emotion, and religiosities in Pentecostalism, focusing on the witnessing practices in the process of popular Brazilian artists’ religious conversion.
