Helena Bomeny is currently a Full Professor of Sociology at the Rio de Janeiro State University (UERJ) and head of the Department of Sociology of UERJ’s Institute of Social Sciences (ICS). She has a PhD in Sociology (1991) from the Instituto Universitário de Pesquisas do Rio de Janeiro, a Master's degree (1980) in Political Science (Political Science and Sociology) from the Instituto Universitário de Pesquisas do Rio de Janeiro, and a Bachelor's degree (1973) in Social Sciences from the Universidade Federal Fluminense. She was a researcher at CPDOC/FGV from January 1976 to December 2012, and a Full Professor of Sociology at the School of Social Sciences (CPDOC between March 2006 and December 2012. She has coordinated FGV’s Escola Superior de Ciências Sociais from its very conception, to the implementation and training of the first class of Social Sciences, between the years of 2006-2010. She has experience in Sociology, with emphasis mainly in education, Brazilian social thought, and sociological theory. She was the head of the Department of Sociology of UERJ’s Institute of Social Sciences (ICS) from January 2016 to August 2017. She also was the director of the Graduate Program in Social Sciences (PPCIS) of UERJ from June 2017 to May 2019.
